Building on the collaboration launched in the aftermath of the devastating floods that struck the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna in 2023, SaferPlaces is taking a new step forward: the development of a customized license for the Regional Agency for Territorial Safety and Civil Protection, dedicated to rapid flood modeling.

Thanks to a three-year agreement, the SaferPlaces platform will be installed directly on MarghERita, the supercomputer made available by the Emilia-Romagna Region to support public administrations in making data-driven political and territorial decisions. As a High Performance Computer (HPC), MarghERita’s advanced computing power will enable the processing of large volumes of data from different sources, with applications across many strategic sectors for the region, including environmental risk management.

In particular, the installation of SaferPlaces on the supercomputer will significantly accelerate flood simulations thanks to the power of its Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), further improving response times and the accuracy of the models.

The goal is clear: to bring innovative tools to the territory, and to foster a culture that uses data to understand and anticipate complex scenarios through models and simulations accessible in just a few clicks.
